As every year since 2009, the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Coastal Observatory has been monitoring changes in the morphology and measurements of the Dune as part of its annual coastal monitoring activities.
Last May, three agents surveyed the Dune to study its evolution. The highest point of the Dune in 2024 was measured at 101 meters. As a reminder, the figure was 103.6 meters in 2023. This is the lowest altitude measured since 2009, when annual measurements began.

The Dune is in perpetual motion and is directly affected by climatic hazards. The winter of 2023-2024 was marked by four successive storms, including Karlotta, which occurred in February 2024 at the same time as high tidal coefficients. It proved to be the most significant storm of this winter of 2023-2024 in terms of marine erosion.
Highly mobile by nature, the Dune of Pilat continues to move eastward. Regular monitoring conducted by the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Coastal Observatory allows for better characterization of these movements in an area where the stakes are high.
