EXHIBITION-ANIMATIONS THE SEA LINE AND THE SEAGRASS BED

Seaweed and eelgrass are little known, although they are essential elements of our ecosystems.

EXHIBITION-ANIMATIONS THE SEA LINE AND THE SEAGRASS BED - Dune du Pilat

The sea line is a natural deposit consisting of organic debris, such as algae, eelgrass and shells, left by the tide on the beach. It plays a crucial role in protecting beaches and dunes from erosion, promoting dune formation, and serving as a habitat for various species. In addition, it contributes to water filtration and the preservation of coastal biodiversity, making it an essential element for the balance of coastal ecosystems.

The Eelgrass is an aquatic plant, which grows on sandy and muddy bottoms of shallow coastal areas. In the Arcachon Basin, it plays an essential ecological role by providing a habitat for many marine species, such as fish and shellfish, and also by stabilizing sediments, which limits erosion. In addition, eelgrass beds contribute to water quality by capturing carbon and producing oxygen, making this plant a key element for the biodiversity and environmental balance of the region. It is present in large numbers in the seaweed on our beaches.
