Grand Site de France approach

🌿 Commitment of the Syndicat Mixte de la Grande Dune du Pilat to the Grand Site de France approach

Following recent publications, Nathalie Le Yondre, President of the Joint Syndicate, would like to reaffirm our establishment's commitment to the Grand Site de France approachThe immediate application for the label is temporarily postponed, while the recommendations of the General Inspectorate of the Environment and Sustainable Development (IGEDD) are fully addressed, in order to ensure a solid and coherent approach.

Since 2007, the The joint union is actively working to preserve, enhance and sustainably manage this exceptional natural site, combining landscape protection, visitor reception and local development. The 2025-2028 action plan, currently in preparation, will further strengthen the preservation of landscape components, cultural and scientific promotion, as well as the implementation of sustainable tourism.

The efforts made in recent years have led to significant progress: requalification of the reception area, land control, environmental education, promotion of the territory, etc. The IGEDD report, while highlighting certain challenges, recognizes the major progress made and the relevance of our approach.

Alongside our partners – the Municipality of La Teste-de-Buch, the Department of Gironde, the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region, local authorities and government departments – we are continuing our mission: to preserve, enhance and pass on this unique natural heritage to future generations.
