The National Steering Committee unanimously issued a favorable opinion on the renewal of the Forêt d'exception® Bassin d'Arcachon label for a period of five years.
With nearly 6,300 hectares of dune forest, the state-owned forests of Lège et Garonne and La Teste de Buch occupy a privileged place within the landscapes of the Arcachon Basin, in Gironde.
Behind the apparent uniformity of the pine forest lies a surprising biodiversity. Holm oaks and cork oaks grow alongside pine trees, creating varied habitats for unique flora and fauna.
These natural spaces are at the heart of multiple issues:
- Economic: fishing, oyster farming, forestry;
- Tourism: welcoming more than 140,000 visitors in summer;
- Ecological: preservation of heritage species;
The partners demonstrate their desire to enhance the sites, through exemplary management and actions shared by the ONF and local stakeholders. This concerted approach is based on five axes :
- promote the identity of the massif by drawing on its landscape and cultural heritage, enhancing it for the benefit of local development
- meet multifunctional needs and act for mutual acceptance of users
- know, protect and strengthen the biodiversity of ecosystems
- ensure the adaptation of the forest massif to climate change
- ensure a lasting link between the forest, its territory and its stakeholders.
