Each year, a staircase is installed in the spring to facilitate your ascent on the Dune of Pilat, a protected natural monument.
To avoid its total silting up during the winter, it is dismantled just after the All Saints holidays. Indeed, we quickly forget that the highest dune in Europe is mobile and moves 1 to 5 meters each year inland, mainly as a result of storms and their strong winds that carry sand.
To admire the breathtaking view of the Arcachon basin, the ocean and the forest, you will now have to go through the sand.
