Due to the work to reinforce the dune notch by the Intercommunal Syndicate of the Arcachon Basin (Siba), to the north of the Grand Site of the Dune of Pilat, Access to the Dune is prohibited via the Corniche staircase.
The mayor of La Teste-de-Buch signed a municipal decree to this effect on Tuesday, January 7 (ban from January 7 until March 28, 2025). Access is nevertheless possible every weekend via the Corniche, from Friday 5 p.m. to Monday 9 a.m.
Objectives of the work
This work aims to combat coastal erosion in this areaThe ocean front of the Arcachon Basin is subject to a problem of erosion and retreat of the coastline which is reflected in the area known as the "Corniche head" by an erosion notch characteristic of the transitions between fixed zones (coastal protection) and soft zones (Pilat beach and dune), under the action of swells, currents and tides.
Work will start in January 2025 with a first phase dedicated to the dismantling and recovery of the pierhead. The second phase, sand replenishment, will take place in the first quarter of 2026, in coordination with the replenishment of the Pyla beaches.
What work is planned?
1/ Dismantling and re-establishment of the nose: 1,470 m³ of rockfill to be removed and re-establishment of the end of the structure in order to limit the progression of the dune notch.
2/ Re-sanding of the dune notch by replenishing 33,000 m³ of sand every 2 years until 2035, following the same instructions as for the neighboring beaches.
To limit disruption to the environment and local activities, no construction work will take place between April and September 2025.

On the other hand, there are no changes to be noted in access to the Dune via the reception area and its visiting possibilities.
