The Joint Syndicate of the Great Dune of Pilat and the South Atlantic National Botanical Conservatory (CBNSA) collaborate closely to ensure the knowledge, monitoring, and preservation of dune ecosystems. Two recent events illustrate the dynamism and reach of this scientific partnership.
Raising awareness and promoting science to the general public
On the occasion of the International Day for Biological Diversity, on May 22nd, the two organizations co-led a field trip entitled «"Plants of sand and wind: the wild flora of the Dune du Pilat"». This joint action made it possible to combine the mediation skills of the Joint Syndicate with the scientific expertise of the CBNSA to raise awareness among participants of the unique adaptations of dune flora and the need for its protection.
Welcoming a delegation from the National Botanical Conservatories
On Thursday, June 4th, the Joint Syndicate and the CBNSA hosted a delegation from the National Botanical Conservatories of mainland France, Corsica, and its overseas territories. This technical meeting facilitated the sharing of experiences on coastal environment conservation strategies. It also highlighted the concrete actions undertaken at the Dune du Pilat Grand Site to reconcile biodiversity preservation with visitor management.
