A look back at the visit organised by Cistude Nature and the Syndicat Mixte de la Grande Dune du Pilat on the rebirth of the post-fire forest massif.
Last Saturday, June 6th, under a sun perfect for exploration, many of you joined us for a rather unique nature outing. Organized by the Syndicat Mixte de la Grande Dune du Pilat in partnership with the Cistude Nature association, this guided tour provided a better understanding of the resilience of our region.
Remembering helps you understand better
Remember the summer of 2022. The images of flames ravaging our forest remain etched in our memories, profoundly altering the landscapes we love so much. Four years later, this precious natural heritage offers us a true lesson in hope.
The objective of this morning was simple but essential: to cross the crest of the Dune to take another look at the forest in transition, to observe how life is gradually reclaiming its rights, and to understand the behind-the-scenes work carried out by scientists.
At the heart of scientific monitoring and ecological issues
For over two hours, participants explored the trails to discover firsthand the mysteries of this natural reconstruction. Guided by experts from Cistude Nature and the Joint Syndicate, the group was able to learn about:
- Naturalist inventories and monitoring: How do scientists measure the return of biodiversity? Participants discovered the protocols put in place since the disaster to catalog the fauna and flora.
- Natural regeneration: Against all odds, the forest reveals an incredible capacity for resilience. Plant species reappear spontaneously, vegetation rebuilds itself layer by layer, and certain insects and birds make their grand return.
- The future of the mountain range: The visit led to rich discussions about the sustainable management of the site and the keys to protecting this dune and forest ecosystem, which is so fragile in the face of climate change.
This free outing brought together diverse profiles, all united by the same desire to understand "what comes next".
