On Wednesday, September 23, Nathalie Le Yondre, President of the Syndicat Mixte de la Grande Dune du Pilat, alongside the Conservatoire du littoral, the DRAC Nouvelle-Aquitaine, the commune of La Teste-de-Buch and the archaeologists of the GRAPBA association in connection with the Ausonius laboratory, officially launched the new archaeological excavation campaign on the Dune du Pilat.

From September 21st to October 9th, 2026, a team of archaeologists and researchers are engaged in a real race against time to combat coastal erosion. 
to preserve the memory of the first human settlements on the Aquitaine coast.
The main objective? To explore forest paleosol no. 2 (dated from 1000 to 500 BC), to study the remains of the saltworks site as well as exceptionally preserved wood in the peat of an ancient pond!
