At its summit, the Dune du Pilat offers an exceptional panorama on a unique triptych on a national scale: forest, dune and ocean. It is one of the most extraordinary landscapes of our country which has just been affected by the fire. By damaging the forest, an emblematic element essential to the beauty of the site and the spirit of the place, the fire has damaged the national natural heritage. This millennial forest has developed gradually in a natural way on ancient dunes. Its strong historical and ecological value is today impacted, the biodiversity shaken, the damaged landscape.
The Network of Great Sites of France wishes to express its greatest solidarity with the manager of the Dune du Pilat, a site of exceptional value, with the elected officials and the inhabitants of the territory in this ordeal.
Louis Villaret President of the Network of Great Sites of France.
