In recent days, some national press articles have sowed doubt: is the Dune of Pilat closed to visitors? The Syndicat Mixte de la Grande Dune du Pilat and the Conservatoire du Littoral wish to clarify the situation. The Dune of Pilat remains fully open to visitors and residents.
AN OPEN SITE, LOCALIZED VIGILANCE
As indicated by the press release of July 22, 2025, only one very restricted area – representing a few square meters located at the place called “le Sabloney” (approximately 50 square meters, at the very south of the Dune), towards the paraglider take-off site – is currently the subject of a protection measure. This part, identified for the presence of polluted old waste, has been secured by the Conservatoire du littoral and the Syndicat Mixte, and its access prohibited as a preventive measure, by municipal decree. This ban does not in any way concern the main and official accesses to the Dune, nor the paths open to the public.
The Grand Site of the Dune of Pilat is therefore accessible and walks, family outings and times of nature observation can continue as normal.
ACTIVITIES AND MEDIATION
